Grumble +3: Why I don't like European Heavy Metal

From Lordi right back to the Scorpions, Helloween, V2, and countless others, the world of heavy metal has been made into a light weight laughing stock by the efforts of a few high pitched European pretenders. Yes, I admit that Sabbath, Anthrax, Megadeth, Iron Maiden and the rest of their contempories are over the top, slightly ridiculous figures as they wage their evil war on all that is pure and simple and good. But at least they make half decent music. What have Lordi done? Next year we'll see a dozen rubbish mock metal bands with dreadful keyboard dominated AOR. I'd rather have a contest consisting of transexual dance divas and punk ska thank you very much. And that is saying something.

Heavy Metal can be creative, can be made by talented artists, can be interesting and rewarding to listen to. It doesn't rot your brain, honest. But skip anything that hasn't come from the UK, Australia or the US. Oh, and Ronnie James Dio counts as a honourary Frenchmen as far as this sweeping generalisation goes.
